Cavortress Part 3

So we all know now how I ended up backstage at the Cavortress Fashion Show on March 12. Now for how I felt being backstage at the Cavortress Fashion Show. For starters, I was so nervous that I completely misread the schedule for the show and towed Lori and Robin downstairs to the hotel lobby with me at 2:00 PM sharp... only to find out that I wasn't supposed to be down there until 5:30. Ugh. That gave us ample time though for me to practice practice practice not falling on my face in heels that were 1 1/2 sizes too big! (That's a whole 'nother story!) After we finally began, I met some amazing people. One of my favorites was Amy Chadwell (the blonde in the second photo from the bottom). Besides having the most kick-ass haircut of anyone I've ever met, she was the nicest person to me. The only of the models to make an effort to chit chat with me. Hey, that's all I'm asking for. Just a little love to calm my nerves! The other girls were nice and very polite though! Anyway, I also met Austin Nelson, the photographer responsible for some of these photos (save for the first 5 black & white ones taken of me backstage by Robin!). He was SO nice and fun to talk to that he made me feel as though I had a local friend there the whole time.

I was so beside myself nervous. I was one of 2 or 3 girls (out of 15) that were completely new to the whole runway thing. I was shorter, tattooed, and def more awkwardly outgoing (atleast it seemed that way) than the other girls. I have to say that I am proud of myself that I was able to be surrounded by 25ish complete strangers and not throw my guts up. I remember so little. I remember standing in line for a final check and looking around the room and seeing the other girls and thinking "Oh my God. This is real. This is about to happen. For real." And then hearing things like, "HEY GIRLS! This place is packed! There's hundreds of people out there." and "Okay, when you turn the corner, they have a spot light that is blinding. Just look forward and walk!." and "GIRLS, REMEMBER TO WALK SLOWLY." and and and so many directions and so much more. I turned the corner, took a deep breath, tried my damndest not to squint at that RIDICULOUSLY bright spot light and walk. s l o w l y . I honestly, don't remember a thing except for the light (I wondered if that's what death feels like) until I got to the end and was like, "Oh! Pose, dammit!" to myself. Then step, step (there were two steps we had to walk down and then "Pose. Again. Man, that guy is really close. I'm only posing for like this row of people standing in front of me. Who cares, keep walking." Then up the ramp and wait wait wait and then here we go again, back to the room, through the crowd that I can SEE this time. The room was so strange walking back into it. I just spent 4 hours in there but all of a sudden it felt lighter. As the girls walked in one by one from the runway everyone cheered and clapped and smiled and it was fantastic. I wish I would have had a camera for that part.

This was one of the best moments of my life. I am sure that we can all look back and remember people who made such a ~~big~~ HUGE influence that they actually CHANGED our lives. For me, it was Michelle Wood (left). She came into my life when I was 17 and offered me an existence all to myself. Something that wasn’t already created for me, something I could take and have and make my own. I met her for 2 hours (if that), spoke to her over a period of 3 weeks and then with no expectations of ever meeting her again, happened to bump into her 8 years later thanks to fashion designer Julie Wheat (right). Even though the original opportunity (modeling forrealsies with the support of Ford Modeling Agency) just having the chance to be so close to that dream gave me confidence to chase others. For that, I owe her so many of my yesterdays.

I'm cheesing through tears.

Cavortress Part 1 & 2

Part 1: Am I Dreaming?

Oh. My. Goooooood. God.

I was chosen to be in the Cavortress Fashion Show as a runway model! I can not believe it. I'm so excited. There is no sense to be made of my brain. Just words. Lots of babbling. Like now. Holy crap!? Can you believe it!?

I'm extremely lucky.

Part 2: If only I had a picture.

Robin, I can't believe that we didn't take one single picture. So Part 2 is where Robin and I get into my car at 3:30 PM on Monday March 1 and drive our happy little asses all the way to Charleston, 4 hours away. I went to meet Julie (the Cavortress owner/designer) and try on her line of clothing to see which she would have me wear in the show. I was flattered to death to get to put on each outfit. As it turns out, Julie is freakin amazing and is helping set me up with a few photographers in Charleston (that I might be shooting with next week) and maybe even an agency. She was atleast nice enough to forward my information. What a dollface, eh?! It's nice to have strangers like you.

Anyway, I want to give an especially huge HUG and KISS to Robin for being freakin fantastic and keeping me company on our long ass journey to and fro Charleston. You'll be the first I call every time.

What an amazing opportunity. My first response to a casting call was fantastic. I hope I'm this lucky all of time! I met Jon Ruby in Atlanta at his apartment where his friend showed up to PAINT ON ME. His friend CINCO (alias, duh) is actually an accomplished graffiti artist in Atlanta, GA who has been doing some body painting lately. Anyway, I spent at least 2 hours lying in the couch while he drew on me! Brandon and I still think back to it as a dream. The situation was so unreal to us having never really experienced meetings like these before. We sat (well, they sat) and chatted (both guys are ridiculously pleasant to be around. would love to be great friends with either) and watched Food Network's live replay of Man vs Food The 48 oz Steak. Afterwards, we drove to this amazing location and shot the above photos. I had a really good time and feel as though I gained a butt load of experience. Jon was extremeley professional, and my favorite kind of photographer, the kind that act as a director. He was able to get such amazing shots because he knew exactly what I needed to tweek in my stance to get the best pose. ***SOAPBOX WARNING I hate it when photographers leave everything up to the model as far as how to make the shot look good. Why? I can only do so much, AND I CAN'T SEE WHAT YOU SEE! I def appreciate the direction!*** Anyway, I love these pictures the most because they make me think that maybe I can do this. I'm no supermodel, but I can definitely get away with doing some alternative modeling as a hobby!

BTW: Can you read the word? I heard that a sign of a good graffiti artist is one whose writing is less legible and more artistic. In that case, I think he's amazing bc I know what it says and still can't read it. :)

So I didn't think that I would get such amazing response from restarting my fave hobby: modeling. It's always been a dream of mine, ever since the dream/opportunity was snatched from my grasp at 17. I'm really thrilled that I've had the opportunity to work with such amazing photographers (photogs-slang...WOW!). I'm even more siked that I'll soon have the chance to work with more amazing photogs in the near future! My schedule is getting booked and I'm moving fast and furiously to achieve. I love everything about this photo. The colors I love the most. I think I've been actually been painting my eyelids with these colors for the past few weeks... purple and pink with a small brush of grey over the entire lid. I know we all get these catalogues right, but just listen to me for a sec...

I was totally telling hubban not 3 days ago when I got the sale mag that I was going to write and ask to stop receiving these VS catalogues. To be honest, it's been a long time since I've seen anything that impressed enough to pay the seemingly erroneous prices. I've spent money there before, and although I haven't really been let down, I have found I prefer the value and better fit of clothes from other stores.

I STAND CORRECTED.

Holy quacamole ya'll! I'm in love! I got the Swim '10 catalogue today in the mail and immediately loved the covergirl's suit! Flipping through, I found numerous other things I think I might just have to have! I can't decide which suit though. I love them all sooo much. I'm thinking the 2nd would be a better buy considering it's versatility (meaning I can wear it to the beach with my hubban and to the pool with my grandmother). But I'm in love love LOVE with the first.

And as far as though shoes go? When was the last time I spent $55 on a pair of shoes that were going to make this happy for 5 months!? 6 considering I refuse to give in to fall.

This outfit? Ridiculously comfortable. This sweater is like a XL (or at least that's how it fits and I'm too f*in lazy to get up and check) and is FAR from flattering on me so I have to do what any girl would do: dress it up! Granted, I could go with the common (-ly disgraceful) 'oversized sweater meets tights' but alas, my Grammy insisted that I grow up with one thing: CLASS. and so be it, here it goes!

I love Georgia. Why? Because I got to wear a sweater bigger than any coat I have because it *might* snow WITH my favorite white peep toe pumps. PEEP TOE. Take that Michigan. I would have gotten my tootsie's all wet had it been 01/07/2005!

*special thanks to Sarah for finally handing over the mates to my favorite pair of black peep toe pumps! Btw, these were bought at Target. I have SCOURED the internet since my damn dog ate my black pair. They're seriously, no wait, SERIOUSLY the most COMFORTABLE heels on the face of the planet. For realsies.

I threw this on for a shopping trip out with Sarah. I was quite proud of myself! I love how it came together!

I believe it's the details in this outfit that make me happy! First off is the teensy bit of lace from my camisole peeking out of the grey sweater (that is a staple, as you'll come to find). The scarf that I copied from a blog that I don't remember is knotted every couple of inches so it's not so bulky around my neck. The ring was a gift from my cowboy for my birthday! I totally lucked out shopping with Lori and found it at Angora, a vintage-ish shop in Athens, GA. It's covered in black and charcoal colored rhinestones. These boots? Oh those boots! I simply adore them! Lori bought them for me that same day in Athens. They're the perfect mix of rugged, biker chic, and feminity! To top this all off, the burst of bright red fingernails and lips!

I bought these jeans the day after Christmas at Kohl's. They're labelled Elle and fit me perfectly. I've never really been the girl in the tight ass jeans so these were especially appealing. If you notice, they're a bit loose in the thigh area but still hug my rear and waist. I know it may be a fashion faux pas, but screw it, I love how long these jeans are. They gather a bit at my ankles which lends a certain 'casualness' to my outfits that I am in constant search for (because I tend to overdress, a teensy tinsy bit).

LEFT: I want you to all take note, here I am in the first picture photographed in both jeans and technically a t shirt. A new rule of thumb for 2010 + for my outfits is that if it is vintage, significantly altered, or just f*ing amazing 't shirt' then it is hereby granted to be worn by me with jeans. I'm still wearing my heels though and totally over came the t shirt with these amazing vintage rhinestone earrings that were my great great grandmother Hyde's.

RIGHT: I went shopping yesterday! Lori and I walked around Athens yesterday on a very windy day that allowed me to daydream we were in Chicago or New York!. I'm wearing my skinny jeans, a black thermal, and a beautiful cardigan (I also picked up the day after Christmas at J Crew). Oh yes, AND HEELS. I have recently been fascinated with pictures of girls wearing loads of bracelets so I decided to open up my jar and fish out any bracelet that seemed to fit my mood for the day. I think I did a pretty damn good job. I have no idea where I picked them up from but the first is a pink/silver rhinestone bracelet and the rest are sparkly glitter bracelets of all different colors mixed in with a few silver skinny bangles.

Here I am in the car waiting to be called. It was about 30 degrees and I was only allowed to wear my tank top and shorts so I got to 'hideaway' in the heat. I was wearing SOOO much makeup, but you couldn't really tell. My lips were painted over. She made them look bigger and better.

Here is a closeup of my hair. I looooved the curls! My hair and makeup was done by Erica of Pin Me Up Hair. She's absolutely amazing. Let me just tell you an amazing story.

I've blogged before about this site on Etsy called Dressed to Kill. I have stumbled in and out of a fascination for the Rockabilly scene. While I was sitting in Erica's bathroom she was explaining to Grant that she was going to be around a little longer than she planned because she was still trying to work production out for her clothing line (because it's cheaper to have it manufactured here than in New York, where she lives with her rockstar boyfriend). I asked her what company she worked for (after babbling about how AWESOME it was that she had worked for Calvin Klein). When she said that she owned and designed for Dressed to Kill I nearly fell over. I made a fool of myself gushing about how awesome her line was and how I love her pencil skirts. So I was scanning through blogs that I haven't been able to check in a while and came across Bleach Black. This hit me like a brick! I've been obsessing over redecorating my living room and the #1 problem on my list is that my living room lacks light. I have to acquire more fixtures, but seeing as though I'm doing this on the super cheap, I think I may have found my solution. I'm going to make these and hang them on the walls surrounding the entire living room. IF I could find a way to hang them from the ceiling as separate constellations, that would be ideal. More to come!

I'm amazed! To be honest, I'm ashamed that I did not first think that these words were written from the heart and not copy and pasted to express some truth that someone else had realized. I'm COMPLETELY victim of doing that all of the time. I lack the cleverness and creativity to write on my own instead of drowning my emotion in the song lyrics someone else wrote.

Which is why I'm amazed and so impressed! These words drew emotion out of me from so many memories of days gone by. To be honest, I'm not sure which is my favorite line. And I can usually peg that without thinking of it. It's a tie, def between the last and the third.

Perhaps I just love this post because of it's title:

I've always been fascinated by my hands. I suppose it has to do with the countless hours spent in church idolizing (haha) the hands of my Grammy. She wore so many gorgeous, expensive, EXQUISITE rings on her fingers and bracelets and jewels on her wrists. I realized in church, in fact, that my hands were gifted to me from her. They match. Precisely. I know exactly how they'll look in 39 years, 7 months, and 24 days.
